MBSYEP Opening Ceremony Celebrity Panel
The Mayor Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) is a locally funded initiative administered by the Department of Employment Services (DOES) that provides a targeted population of at risk District youth, ages 18-24, with the means to develop positive work habits, attitudes, and valuable job skills. Last year, ADC Management Solutions partnered with the District Department of General Services (DGS) in implementing a pilot initiative, the DC Emerging Leaders: WRAP Academy for approximately 150 youth, designed to enhance the participant experience through counseling, mentoring, and a weekly education and training component. On June 26th, as a kick-off to the program, we organized a celebrity panel including James Brown, NFL Sports Caster; Evens Charles, Frontier Development & Hospitality; Shiedha Williams, MUA, Hellooo Gorgeous; Darren Waller, Baltimore Raven’s Tight End; Chef Cheo Garabito, Professional Personal Chef; Alfred “Black Boo” Duncan, GoGo Band Musician/ Entrepreneur; Councilman Trayon White, Council of the District of Columbia Government, and was facilitated by DC's own Ms. Angie Ange of 93.9 WKYS! The panelists were asked to talk to participants about their success stories in hopes of motivating them to succeed and use the knowledge and skills learned through this experience to the best of their ability. Check out our greatest moments of the event!
